Every computer, services, or any other resources that are connected to the internet of the private networks have a naming system, that is known as the Domain Name System or DNS. All the systems connected to the internet communicate with each other using numbers. These numbers are known as IP address. Domain hosting requires a DNS pointing to a web server, in order to work.
But remembering such numbers is difficult and to ease this situation, a domain name is used. Suppose we want to open a website. First, we open a browser and then type the domain name. For example, wikipedia.com.
There are two types of DNS - Authoritative and Recursive.
How does the domain hosting work?
Whenever a domain name is entered in the address bar of a web browser, first of all, a request is sent to a global network of servers. The purpose of this request is to form the Domain Name System.
Every domain has a name server associated with it. This global network of servers looks for the name server associated with the domain. Then, the request is forward to these name servers. These name servers are nothing but computers that are managed by some hosting companies.
The domain hosting company forwards the request to the place where the website is stored. This place is a computer that is known as a web server. This web server is responsible for fetching web pages and information associated with it.
After the web page and information is fetched, the web server sends it back to the browser. This is how the domain works.
